Directed to the right child
We only assist children who have lost both parents and live within the ecclesiastical parish of Llanybydder. Our founding instrument requires it, and we apply the test carefully and compassionately in each case.
The Thomas Davies Charity is a small, long-standing charitable trust. Our single purpose is to offer modest financial support to fully orphaned children living within the parish of Llanybydder, so that a difficult chapter in a young life is met with dignity and practical care from the community around them.
There are larger charities across Wales doing magnificent work. We are not one of them. The Thomas Davies Charity was established under the terms of a local endowment to do one specific thing: to give to a fully orphaned child in the parish of Llanybydder.
That narrow focus is a strength. It means every pound is directed where the founder intended, every grant is considered by trustees who know the parish, and every child helped is part of the community around us. Our work is small by design — but meaningful in effect.
What we do in practice →These are the promises the trustees make to every applicant, every year — and to the parish of Llanybydder that entrusted this endowment to us.
We only assist children who have lost both parents and live within the ecclesiastical parish of Llanybydder. Our founding instrument requires it, and we apply the test carefully and compassionately in each case.
Applications are handled confidentially by the trustees. We understand the sensitivity of a child's circumstances and we do not publish the names or situations of those we help.
Our income, expenditure and trustee details are reported annually to the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our public register entry is available at all times for public inspection.
The charity carries the name of Thomas Davies, whose endowment was constituted to benefit orphaned children of Llanybydder. Like many small parish charities across Wales, ours is a living inheritance — one small part of the long tradition of neighbourly care that shaped rural Welsh life.
Today it is held in trust by two trustees drawn from the local community, who serve without payment. Their sole responsibility is to see that the founder's wish is honoured in each generation.
